We, the undersigned, call on Parliament to reject the unlawful and disgraceful deal to hand over the Chagos Islands — a vital British territory — to Mauritius, at a cost of billions to the British taxpayer.
The UK Government has signed this deal without lawful consultation, without a public mandate, and without any protection for the indigenous Chagossian people — many of whom are British citizens — who are now being treated as if they do not exist. The Chagossians — who have suffered racial and religious persecution in Mauritius for sixty years — are terrified they will never be able to go home. This deal is cruel, racist, potentially dangerous, and certainly undemocratic.
The Chagos Islands also cover 640,000 sq km of the most pristine, most biodiverse, and thus most vulnerable ocean environment anywhere in the world. It is the most important refuge for whales, turtles, and many species of migratory wildlife globally. We need to protect it.
The Chagos deal has been signed, but not yet ratified. Parliament still has a choice and MPs can vote against it.
This is not about party politics. It’s about sovereignty, justice, and the national interest. MPs must protect against this deal which is potentially unlawful, discriminatory, and morally indefensible.
MPs must understand: we are watching.

This deal is cruel, racist, potentially dangerous and undemocratic. It will also damage a protected marine area.
We must stop the deal being ratified in Parliament. MPs must know the people are outraged.https://t.co/jEjIuypJjX
